My journey from “High Income Broke” to building a financial forecast I actually trust
If you looked at my LinkedIn, you’d see a successful professional. If you looked at my tax returns, you’d see a “High Earner.” But if you looked at my bank account at 11:00 PM on a Tuesday, you’d see a different story: $47.50 remaining, a maxed-out credit card, and the crushing anxiety of wondering where it all went.
For years, I lived in the “HENRY” trap (High Earner, Not Rich Yet). I fell for every classic mistake:
- The Convenience Tax: Spending $70 a day on lattes, overpriced sandwiches, and cigarettes because I was “too busy” to cook.
- The Professional Image: Buying the gear, the clothes, and the lifestyle that matched my title, while my net worth stayed stagnant.
- The “Black Hole” Effect: Thinking that a bigger bonus would solve my problems, only to realize the bonus was usually spent in my head months before it hit my account.
I realized that traditional budgeting apps didn’t work for me. They told me what I spent yesterday, but they didn’t help me manage the future. I needed a way to see how my “Exceptional Events”—the bonuses, the tax bills, and the impulse purchases—actually affected my life six months from now.
I started treating my personal life like a business. I built a system to forecast my freedom, not just track my failures.
I created this site because I know I’m not alone. There are thousands of us making “good money” but living paycheck to paycheck in total silence.
Undebtify is here to provide:
- Honest Stories: The raw details of my own debt-payoff journey.
- The Forecaster: A tool to help you visualize your financial future and plan for those “Exceptional Events.”
- The Pocket Tracker: A tactical, one-tap way to manage your daily “allowance” so you stop bleeding cash on convenience.
We’re not here to cut out every joy in life. We’re here to “undebtify”—to reclaim our high incomes and turn them into actual wealth, one forecasted month at a time.
